Suggestions for Practicing During the Holiday Break

There will be no yoga classes at Harmony Yoga from December 21 through January 4, which is the longest break we've had since I opened the studio.

So what can you do in the meantime to keep up with your own yoga practice?  Here are a few ideas.

Practice Sheets

The Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York has two sets of sequences that you can print out for your own use.  These are pdf files.   You can do the poses as you remember doing them in class.  Those of you in the Gentle Yoga classes may want to do many of these poses with more support, such as using a chair or the wall for balance.

Level 1 - Four sequences

While you're on their website, you may also want to check out their excellent FAQ page that gives an overview of what Iyengar Yoga is, and what to expect out of the classes you take in this method.

These are from two years ago.

Refer to Books About Iyengar Yoga

I strongly recommend that you have a few Iyengar Yoga books as references.  The first three are the ones I refer back to most often, and what I recommend most frequently to the more serious yoga students.

These are three more books that I also refer to.  The first two are very good for beginners and for more experienced students alike.  The third book is a fun one to use if you have a yoga chair (a regular folding chair works fine for many of these poses).
